Measuring ray sets

Ray data describe the complete radiation characteristic of a light source and are often used for simulating optical components. In many cases, ray data derived from mathematical / physical models describe the real light sources insufficiently, which makes measured ray data indispensable for the realistic simulation of optical components.

For measuring the ray data of LEDs and lamps, the smaller goniophotometer models have been designed. The result data can be output in all common ray data formats by means of a conversion program free of charge.

  • Alignment of the objects to be measured by means of the camera and coordinate system displayed
  • Measurement of high-resolution ray data at high measuring speeds (typical measuring times and resolutions 1h … 4h, 1° … 0.5°)
  • Measurement using different spectral filters for generating spectrally resolved ray data
  • Conversion of the compact TechnoTeam ray file format into various formats (ASAP, Optis, LightTools, LucidShape, Zemax, TracePro, SimuLux, Photopia)

Alignment of the DUT

The alignment of the measurement object is used to specify the origin of the coordinate system to a unique position with respect to the LED structure (housing, chip position). This facilitates the subsequent handling of the ray data. For the alignment of the measuring camera is positioned on orthogonal viewing directions and the DUT is aligned along the on-screen grid of coordinates. The adjustment images can be stored for protocolling.

Set up and start of the measurement

Thereafter it follows the set up of the measurement. The measurement resolution is usually selected to be high (0.5 ° x 0.5 ° ... 1 ° x 1 °) and the angular range of the measurement is reduced to the radiation area of the light source. After choosing the integration time of the camera and the measuring range of the photometer, the goniophotometer is ready for measurement.

To measure the DUT must have a stable light emission. For this purpose, the automatic burn-in routine can be used in accordance with EN13032-4 and LM79. The data collected during the stabilisation phase (illuminances, temperatures, electrical measurement data) are stored in the data file.

Export of the ray data

The export of the ray data from the TechnoTeam TTR - format to another ray data format us done by the free conversion program Converter801. The starting points of the ray data are shifted to a selectable target geometry (sphere, cuboid, cylinder).
