When light emitted by a light source illuminates a reflective wall beyond the photometric limiting distance, the emitted luminous flux causes an illuminance on this reflective wall. This again causes a reflected luminance which can be detected in a spatially resolved manner by means of the LMK providing the luminance distribution.
Knowing the geometrical relationships of the measurement setup (position of the light source, the reflective wall and the luminance measuring camera), a corresponding illuminance distribution and luminous intensity distribution (LID) can be calculated.
