Control of actuators
Background
Modern headlights from the automotive sector are constantly placing new requirements on the existing testing and measuring equipment, thus generating permanent development pressure for quality assurance. In recent years, automotive lighting equipment has become more efficient, so the test equipment now requires an extended measurement range. Current developments, therefore, call for existing camera systems to be upgraded with a filter to make them more light-insensitive, allowing more efficient lighting systems to be measured.
Your tasks
The goal of this internship or thesis is to support our company in the development and operation of existing actuators and to implement them independently with a microcontroller. Your duties here specifically include:
- Analyzing existing solutions
- Development of own alternative solutions
- Evaluation of all solutions and identification of the most suitable one
- Implementation of the chosen solution
- Documentation of the results

Your qualifications
- You are currently a STEM major student
- You have analytical skills
- You demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team and contribute your skills to an existing team
- You have basic programming skills (e.g. C or C++)
- You have Microsoft Office skills
- You preferably have programming experience with Arduino microcontrollers

Measurement of HUD Systems
Background
Head-up display (HUD) systems in modern vehicles are convenient and lead to less time spent looking away from traffic, thus increasing road safety. Nevertheless, the technology is still comparatively new and characterized by a high degree of innovation. In addition to HUDs with different projection levels, the aspect of mixed reality is also becoming increasingly important. However, this not only increases the requirements for the algorithms of the HUDs but also the photometric precision of the overall system. , therefore, precise photometric measurements are required for the characterization of the HUDs in the context of their development, as well as in quality control.
Your tasks
The goal of the internship is to support our company in the development of novel measurement techniques for HUD systems in Ilmenau and to develop methods for the acquisition of photometric characteristics. Your duties here specifically include:
- Carrying out experiments on existing measurement setups
- Prototypical implementation and subsequent testing of measurement and alignment algorithms (ideally in Matlab or Python)
- Plan, perform, and evaluate reproducibility experiments
- Comparison of different alignment and measurement algorithms with regard to geometric and photometric characteristics
- Documentation of the results
